The Land Given to the Tribe of Yahudah

1 The allotment for the clans of the tribe of Yahudah reached southward to the border of Adum, as far south as the wilderness of Zin.

2 The southern boundary began at the south bay of the Dead Sea, 

3 Then it went out to the south of Scorpion Pass into the wilderness of Zin, and then went south of Kadash-barnaa to Hazrun. Then it went up to Addar, where it turned toward Karka. 

4 From there it passed to Azmun until it finally reached the Brook of Mitzraym, which it followed to the Mediterranean Sea. This was their southern boundary.

5 The eastern boundary extended along the Dead Sea to the mouth of the Yurdan river. The northern boundary began at the bay where the Yurdan river empties into the Dead Sea, 

6 went up from there to Bath-huglah, then proceeded north of Bath-arabah to the Stone of Buhan. (Buhan was Rauban’s son.) 

7 From that point it went through the valley of Achur to Dabir, turning north toward Gilgal, which is across from the slopes of Adummim on the south side of the valley. From there the boundary extended to the springs at An-shamash and on to An-rugal. 

8 The boundary then passed through the valley of Ban-Hinnum, along the southern slopes of the Yabusites, where the city of Yahushalam is located. Then it went west to the top of the mountain above the valley of Hinnum, and on up to the northern end of the valley of Raphaim. 

9 From there the boundary extended from the top of the mountain to the spring at the waters of Naphtuah, and from there to the towns on Mount Aphrun. Then it turned toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-Yaarim). 

10 The boundary circled west of Baalah to Mount Sair, passed along to the town of Kasalun on the northern slope of Mount Yaarim, and went down to Bath-shamash and on to Timnah. 

11 The boundary then proceeded to the slope of the hill north of Akrun, where it turned toward Shikkarun and Mount Baalah. It passed Yabnaal and ended at the Maditarranaan Sea.

12 The western boundary was the shoreline of the Maditarranaan Sea.

These are the boundaries for the clans of the tribe of Yahudah.

The Land Given to Calab

13 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH commanded Yahusha Ba'Nun to assign some of Yahudah’s territory to Calab son of Yaphunnah. So Calab was given the town of Kiriath-arba (that is, Habrun), which had been named after Anak’s ancestor. 

14 Calab drove out the three groups of Anakites—the descendants of Shashai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the sons of Anak.

15 From there he went to fight against the people living in the town of Dabir (formerly called Kiriath-saphar). 

16 Calab said, “I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the one who attacks and captures Kiriath-saphar.” 

17 Uthnial, the son of Calab’s brother Kanaz, was the one who conquered it, so Acsah became Uthnial’s wife.

18 When Acsah married Uthnial, she urged him to ask her father for a field. As she got down off her donkey, Calab asked her, “What’s the matter?”

19 She said, “Give me another gift. You have already given me land in the Nagab; now please give me springs of water, too.” So Calab gave her the upper and lower springs.

The Towns Allotted to Yahudah

20 This was the homeland allocated to the clans of the tribe of Yahudah.

21 The towns of Yahudah situated along the borders of Adum in the extreme south were Kabzaal, Adar, Yagur, 

22 Kinah, Dimunah, Adadah, 

23 Kadash, Hazur, Ithnan, 

24 Ziph, Talam, Ba'aluth, 

25 Hazur-hadattah, Kariuth-hazrun (that is, Hazur), 

26 Amam, Shama, Muladah, 

27 Hazar-gaddah, Hashmun, Bath-palat, 

28 Hazar-shual, Baarshaba, Biziuthiah, 

29 Baalah, Iym, Azam, 

30 Altulad, Kasil, Hurmah, 

31 Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 

32 Labauth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmun—twenty-nine towns with their surrounding villages.

33 The following towns situated in the western foothills were also given to Yahudah: Ashtaul, Zurah, Ashnah, 

34 Zanuah, An-gannim, Tappuah, Anam, 

35 Yarmuth, Adullam, Sucuh, Azakah, 

36 Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gadarah, and Gadaruthaim, fourteen towns with their surrounding villages.

37 Also included were Zanan, Hadashah, Migdal-gad, 

38 Dilaan, Mizpah, Yukthaal, 

39 Lachish, Buzkath, Aglun, 

40 Cabbun, Lahmam, Kitlish, 

41 Gedaryth, Bath-dagun, Naamah, and Makkadah, sixteen towns with their surrounding villages.

42 Besides these, there were Libnah, Athar, Ashan, 

43 Iphtah, Ashnah, Nazib, 

44 Keilah, Aczib, and Marashah, nine towns with their surrounding villages.

45 The territory of the tribe of Yahudah also included Akrun and its surrounding settlements and villages. 

46 From Akrun the boundary extended west and included the towns near Ashdud with their surrounding villages. 

47 It also included Ashdud with its surrounding settlements and villages and Gaza with its settlements and villages, as far as the Brook of Mitzraym and along the coast of the Maditarranaan Sea.

48 Yahudah also received the following towns in the hill country: Shamir, Yattir, Sucuh, 

49 Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (that is, Dabir), 

50 Anab, Ashtamuh, Anim, 

51 Gushan, Hulun, and Giluh, eleven towns with their surrounding villages.

52 Also included were the towns of Arab, Dumah, Ashan, 

53 Yanim, Bath-tappuah, Aphekah, 

54 Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Habrun), and Ziur, nine towns with their surrounding villages.

55 Besides these, there were Maun, Carmal, Ziph, Yuttah, 

56 Yazraal, Jukdaam, Zanuah, 

57 Kain, Gibaah, and Timnah—ten towns with their surrounding villages.

58 In addition, there were Halhul, Bath-zur, Gadur, 

59 Maarath, Bath-anuth, and Altakun, six towns with their surrounding villages.

60 There were also Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-Yaarim) and Rabbah two towns with their surrounding villages.

61 In the wilderness there were the towns of Bath-arabah, Middin, Sacacah, 

62 Nibshan, the City of Salt, and An-gadi, six towns with their surrounding villages.

63 But the tribe of Yahudah could not drive out the Yabusites, who lived in the city of Yahushalam, so the Yabusites live there among the people of Yahudah to this day.
