Dabarym (Deuteronomy) — 4

Musha Urges Yashar'AL to Obey

“And now, Yashar'AL, listen carefully to these decrees and regulations that I am about to teach you. Obey them so that you may live, so you may enter and occupy the land that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of your ancestors, is giving you.

You must not add to or remove from the Dabar of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH which i am giving you today O Yashar'AL, You must obey the commandments of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your  𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH that I am giving you.

3 “You saw for yourself what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH did to you at Baal-paur. There 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH destroyed everyone who had worshiped Baal, the idol of Paur. .

But all of you who were faithful to  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH are still alive today, every one of you.

“Look, I now teach you these decrees and regulations just as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH my  𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH commanded me, so that you may obey them in the land you are about to enter and occupy.

Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations. When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim, ‘How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’

For what great nation has an 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH  as near to them as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH our  𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH is near to us whenever we call on Him?

And what great nation has decrees and regulations as righteous and fair as this body of instructions that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH gave me  to give you today?

“But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.

10 Never forget the day when you stood before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH at Mount Sinai, where 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH told me, that I should Gather the people before Him, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Dabar to you and said, I will let them hear Me speak with them and then they will learn to fear Me as long as they live, and they will teach their children to fear Me also says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH.’

11 “You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, while flames from the mountain shot into the sky. The mountain was shrouded in black clouds and deep darkness.

12 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Dabar to you from the heart of the fire. You heard the sound of the Dabar of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH talking to you all, but you did not see the form of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH; there was only a Voice.

13 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH proclaimed His covenant, The Ten Commandments, which He commanded you to keep, and which He wrote on two stone tablets.

14 It was at that time that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH  commanded me to teach you his decrees and regulations so you would obey them in the land you are about to enter and occupy.

Musha Warn Yashar'AL against Idolatry

15 “You should be very careful! For you did not see 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH’s form on the day  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH spoke to you from the heart of the fire at Mount Sinai.

16 So be careful! Do not sin and destroy yourselves by making images or statues in the shape of any living thing, do not make an idol that looks like a man or a woman,

17 or like an animal on the Arath, or like a bird that flies in the sky.

18 And do not make an idol that looks like anything that crawls on the ground or like a fish in the Yam (sea).

19 And be careful when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon, the stars and all the many things in the sky. Be careful that you are not tempted to worship and serve them,  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH have only allowed the other people in the world do this, you are the set apart ones of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH.

20 Remember that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH rescued you from the iron-smelting furnace of Mitzraym in order to make you his very own people and his special possession, which is what you are today.

21 “But 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH was angry with me because of you. 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH vowed that I would not cross the Yurdan River into the good land 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your  𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH is giving you as your special possession.

22 You will cross the Yurdan to occupy the land, but I will not. Instead, I will die here on the east side of the river.

23 So be careful not to break the covenant  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH has made with you. Do not make idols of any shape or form, for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH  has forbidden this.

24 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH is a devouring fire; 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH is a jealous 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH.

25 “In the future, when you have children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time, do not corrupt yourselves by making idols of any kind. This is evil in the sight of  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH and will arouse the anger of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH.

26 “Today I call on Shamaym and Arath as witnesses against you. If you break this covenant 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH gave me to give you, then You will quickly disappear from the land you are crossing the Yurdan to occupy. You will live there only a short time; then you will be utterly be destroyed.

27 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH will scatter you among the nations, where only a few of you will survive.

28 There, in a foreign land, you will worship idols made from wood and stone that neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

29 But from there you will search again for  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH. And if you search for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH with all your heart and soul, you will find Him.

30 “In the distant future, when you are suffering all these things, you will finally return to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH and listen to what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH tells you.

31 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH is a merciful 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH; For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH  will not abandon you or destroy you or forget the solemn covenant He made with your ancestors.

There Is Only One 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH

32 “Now search all of history, from the time 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH created people on the Arath until now, and search from one end of the Shamaym to the other. Has anything as great as this ever been seen or heard before?

33 Has any nation ever heard the voice of  𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH speaking from fire as you did and survived?

34 Has any other carved idol dared to take a nation for himself out of another nation by means of trials, miraculous signs, wonders, war, a strong hand, a powerful arm, and terrifying acts? Yet that is what  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH did for you in Mitzraym, right before your eyes.

35 “For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH showed you these things so you would know that  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH is the only 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH and there is no other.

36 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH let you hear His voice from Shamaym so He could instruct you,  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH let you see His great fire here on Arath so 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH could speak to you from it.

37 Because 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH loved your ancestors, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH chose to barak their descendants, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH  personally brought you out of Mitzraym with a great display of power.

38 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH drove out nations far greater than you, so He could bring you in and give you their land as your special possession, as it is today.

39 “So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH is 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH both in Shamaym and on Arath, and there is no other.

40 If you obey all the decrees and commandments 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH gave me to give you today, all will be well with you and your children. I am giving you these instructions so you will enjoy a long life in the land 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH your 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH is giving you for all time.”

41 Then Musha set apart three cities of refuge east of the Yurdan River.

42 Anyone who killed another person unintentionally, without previous hostility, could flee there to live in safety.

43 These were the cities: Bazar on the wilderness plataau for the tribe of Rauban; Ramuth in Gilaad for the tribe of Gad; Gulan in Bashan for the tribe of Manassah.

Introduction to Musha’s Second Address

44 This is the body of instruction that Musha presented to the Yasharalym.

45 These are the laws, decrees, and regulations that Musha gave to the people of Yashar'AL when they left Mitzraym,

46 and as they camped in the valley near Bath-paur east of the Yurdan River. (This land was formerly occupied by the Amurites under King Sihun, who ruled from Hashbun. But Musha and the Yasharalym destroyed him and his people when they came up from Mitzraym.

47 Yashar'AL took possession of his land and that of King Ug of Bashan the two Amurite kings east of the Yurdan.

48 So Yashar'AL conquered the entire area from Aruar at the edge of the Arnun Gurge all the way to Mount Siriun, also called Mount Harmun.

49 And they conquered the eastern bank of the Yurdan River as far south as the Dead Sea, below the slopes of Pisgah.)
