Yaram'Yahu (Jeremiah) — 28
Yaramyahu Condemns Hananyahu
One day in late summer of that same year, the fourth year of the reign of Zadakyahu, king of Yahudah, Hananyahu son of Azzur, a Nabym from Gibaun, addressed me publicly in the Temple while all the Kuhanym and people listened, he said,
“This is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Tsaba'ut, the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of Yashar'AL Dabar: ‘I will remove the yoke of the king of Babylun from your necks.
Within two years I will bring back all the Temple treasures that King Nabuchadnazzar carried off to Babylun.
And I will bring back Yahuiachin son of Yahuiakim, king of Yahudah, and all the other captives that were taken to Babylun, I will surely break the yoke that the king of Babylun has put on your necks, I 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH have spoken!’”
Yaramyahu responded to Hananyahu as they stood in front of all the Kuhanym and people at the Temple.
He said, “So be it! May your prophecies come true! I hope 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH does everything you say, I hope he does bring back from Babylun the treasures of this Temple and all the captives.
But listen now to the solemn words I speak to you in the presence of all these people.
The ancient Nabyms who preceded you and me spoke against many nations, always warning of war, disaster, and disease.
So a Nabym who predicts Shalum must show he is right, Only when his predictions come true can we know that he is really from 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH.”
Then Hananyahu the Nabym took the yoke off Yaramyahu’s neck and broke it in pieces.
And Hananyahu said again to the crowd that had gathered, “This is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Dabar: ‘Just as this yoke has been broken, within two years I will break the yoke of oppression from all the nations now subject to King Nabuchadnazzar of Babylun,” With that, Yaramyahu left the Temple area.
Soon after this confrontation with Hananyahu, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH gave this message to Yaramyahu:
“Go and tell Hananyahu, ‘this is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Dabar: you have broken a wooden yoke, but you have replaced it with a yoke of iron.
For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Tsaba'ut the 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH of Yashar'AL Dabar: I have put a yoke of iron on the necks of all these nations, forcing them into slavery under King Nabuchadnazzar of Babylun, I have put everything, even the wild animals, under his control.’”
Then Yaramyahu the Nabym said to Hananyahu, “Listen, Hananyahu! 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH has not sent you, but the people believe your lies.
Therefore, this is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH Dabar: ‘You must die, Your life will end this very year because you have rebelled against 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH.’”
Two months later the prophet Hananyahu died.
