2nd Shamu'AL (2 Samuel) — 8

Daud’s Military Victories

1 After this, Daud defeated and subdued the Philistines by conquering Gath, their largest town. 

2 Daud also conquered the land of Muab, he made the people lie down on the ground in a row, and he measured them off in groups with a length of rope, he measured off two groups to be executed for every one group to be spared. The Muabites who were spared became Daud’s subjects and paid him tribute money.

3 Daud also destroyed the forces of Hadadazar son of Rahub, king of Zubah, when Hadadazar marched out to strengthen his control along the Auphrates River. 

4 Daud captured one thousand chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Daud crippled all the chariot horses except enough for one hundred chariots.

5 When Aramaans from Damascus arrived to help King Hadadazar, Daud killed twenty two thousand of them. 

6 Then he placed several army garrisons in Damascus, the Aramaan capital, and the Aramaans became Daud’s subjects and paid him tribute money. So 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH made Daud victorious wherever he went.

7 Daud brought the gold shields of Hadadazar’s officers to Yahushalam, 

8 along with a large amount of bronze from Hadadazar’s towns of Tabah and Baruthai.

9 When King Tuy of Hamath heard that Daud had destroyed the entire army of Hadadazar, 

10 he sent his son Yuram to congratulate King Daud for his successful campaign. Hadadazar and Tuy had been enemies and were often at war. Yuram presented Daud with many gifts of silver, gold, and bronze.

11 King Daud dedicated all these gifts to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH, as he did with the silver and gold from the other nations he had defeated.

12 from Adum, Muab, Ammun, Philistia, and Amalak and from Hadadazar son of Rahub, king of Zubah.

13 So Daud became even more famous when he returned from destroying eighteen thousand Adumites in the Valley of Salt. 

14 Daud placed army garrisons throughout Adum, and all the Adumites became Daud’s subjects. In fact, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄_YAHUAH made Daud victorious wherever he went.

15 So Daud reigned over all Yashar'AL and did what was just and right for all his people. 

16 Yuab son of Zaruyahu was commander of the army. Yahushaphat son of Ahilud was the royal historian. 

17 Zaduk son of Ahitub and Ahimalach son of Abiathar were the Kuhan. Sarayahu was the court secretary. 

18 Banayahu son of Yahuada was captain of the king’s bodyguard. And Daud’s sons served as chief ministers.
