Barashyt(Genesis) — 39

1 Now Ya'asaf had been taken down to Mitzraym, and Putiphar an officer of Phar'uh, captain of the guard, a Mitzraym, bought him from the Ishmaalites who had taken him down there. 

2 and 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH was with Ya'asaf, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Mitzraym. 

3 And Ya'asaf master saw that 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH was with him and that 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH made all Ya'asaf did to prosper in his hand. 

4 So Ya'asaf found favor in Putifar sight, and served him. Then Putifar made Ya'asaf overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under Ya'asaf authority. 

5 So it was, from the time that Putifar had made Ya'asaf overseer of his house and all that he had, that 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH Baraked the Mitzraym house for Ya'asaf sake; and the Baraka of 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH was on all that Putifar had in the house and in the field. 

6 Thus Putifar left all that he had in Ya'asaf’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Ya'asaf was handsome in form and appearance.

7 And it came to pass after these things that Putiphar’s wife cast longing eyes on Ya'asaf, and she said, “sleep with me.”

8 But Ya'asaf refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household.

9 No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH.”

10 She kept putting pressure on Ya'asaf day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and Ya'asaf kept out of her way as much as possible. 

11 One day, however, no one else was around when Ya'asaf went in the house to do his work. 

12 Then Putiphar's wife came and grabbed Ya'asaf by his cloak, demanding, “Come on, come sleep with me!” and Ya'asaf tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hand as Ya'asaf ran out from the house.

13 And so it was, when she saw that Ya'asaf had left his garment in her hand and fled outside, 

14 that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, “See, my master has brought in to us an Abarym (Hebrew) to mock us. For Ya'asaf came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. 

15 And it happened, when Ya'asaf heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.”

16 So she kept his garment with her until his master came home. 

17 Then she spoke to Putiphar with words like these, saying, “The Abarym (Hebrew) servant whom you brought to us came in to me to mock me; 

18 so it happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.”

19 So it was, when Ya'asaf master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that Putiphar's anger was aroused. 

20 Then Putiphar took Ya'asaf and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison. 

21 But 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH was with Ya'asaf and showed him kindness, and 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH gave Ya'asaf favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 

22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Ya'asaf authority over all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was Ya'asaf doing. 

23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Ya'asaf’s authority, because 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH was with him; and whatever Ya'asaf did, 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH made it prosper.
