Barashyt(Genesis) — 20

Abraham moved south to the Nagab and lived for a while between Kadash and Shur, and then he moved on to Garar. While living there as a foreigner,

Abraham introduced his wife, Sharah, by saying, “She is my sister.” So King Abimalach of Garar sent for Sharah and had her brought to him at his palace.

But that night 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH came to Abimalach in a dream and Dabar him, “You are a dead man, for that woman you have taken is already married!”

But Abimalach had not slept with her yet, so he said, “𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH, will you destroy an innocent nation?

Abraham told me, ‘She is my sister’? And Sharah herself said, ‘Yes, he is my brother.’ I acted in complete innocence! My hands are clean.”

In the dream 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH Dabar, “Yes, I know you are innocent. That’s why I kept you from sinning against me, and why I did not let you touch her.

Now return the woman to her husband, and he will pray for you, for he is a Nabym (Prophet). Then you will live. But if you don’t return her to Abraham, you can be sure that you and all your people will die.”

Abimalach got up early the next morning and quickly called all his servants together. When he told them what had happened, his men were terrified.

Then Abimalach called for Abraham. “What have you done to us?” he demanded. “What crime have I committed that deserves treatment like this, making me and my kingdom guilty of this great sin? No one should ever do what you have done!

Abimalach asked Abraham what have you been thinking for you to do such a thing?”

“I thought that there’s no fear of 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH in this place,” Abraham replied, “and that they would kill me because of my wife.

Besides, she really is my sister she’s my father’s daughter, but not my mother’s daughter so she could become my wife.

When 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH caused me to journey from my father’s house, I asked her to do me this favor and say, ‘He’s my brother.’”

So Abimalach took some sheep and oxen, and some male and female servants, gave them to Abraham, returned his wife Sharah to him,

Abimalach said, “Look! My land is available to you, so settle wherever you please.”

Abimalach also told Sharah, “Look! I am giving your brother 1,000 pieces of silver to vindicate you in the eyes of all who are with you. As a result, you will be completely vindicated.”

Then Abraham interceded with 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH, and 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH healed Abimalach, his wife, and his female servants so they could bear children,

since 𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤄_ALUAH had made all the women barren in Abimalach’s household on account of Abraham’s wife Sharah.
